Letter: Why Change The Derby Charter?

Derby voters are being asked to vote on seven City Charter Revisions.

It appears some are vague in description and beg the question, WHY the changes??

Before a vote is taken the committee should resolve these ambiguities’ and identify the need for revisions before any vote is taken.

A few examples follow:

Question 2‑Four Year Term for all Elected Officials.
Why and what’s the need?? Personally I adhere to Madison’s approach to limit terms and limit the potential damage.

Question 3‑Full Time Mayor.
Why and what’s the need?? Additionally, what is the added cost and what new duties would be required. I may have missed it; however, i did not find where in the Charter it states the Mayoral position as Part Time.

Question 4- Duties of the Treasurer.
It is stated the duties shall be amended; amended to what??

These are but a few examples as there are other questions for remaining revisions as well.

One last item; has anyone seen the center of town recently, actually the last twenty years or so. It would appear we need more than some Charter revisions.
