Livestream: Contentious Derby Aldermen/Alderwomen Meeting

DERBY — Click the play button to listen to a fairly cantankerous meeting of the Derby Board of Aldermen and Alderwomen from Oct. 12.

The city legislators, after an anonymous complained was lodged with CONN-OSHA, voted to spend $500,000 in grant money to replace outdated and close to outdated firefighter gear.

Go to the one hour and 36 minute mark to listen to that discussion.

The Valley Indy is working on a story on the issue that will hopefully publish Wednesday. Skip to the 2 hour, 21 minute mark to hear what incumbent Mayor Rich Dziekan and his challengers Alderman Gino DiGiovanni, Sharlene McEvoy and Joseph DiMartino have to say about the issue.

The Alders took no action on a proposal to approve the purchase price of a scrapyard downtown after hearing from some developers who might be interested in doing something in the downtown redevelopment zone.

The Valley Indy also took calls toward the end of the livestream.

Skip to the 2 hour 26 minute mark of the video to listen to Alderman Gino DiGiovanni weigh in on the meeting and Derby issues. DiGiovanni is the Republican-endorsed candidate for mayor. He also addresses a campaign flyer from Mayor Rich Dziekan’s campaign bringing up two civil lawsuits to which DiGiovanni is connected.

NOTE: Derby corporation counsel Vincent Marino sent the following letter regarding DiGiovanni’s statements on Oct. 30:
