Lock Your Car Doors Or Some Knucklehead Will Steal Your Maple Syrup

Residents are again reminded to lock car doors and to not leave valuables in vehicles.

Derby police sent word to the Derby Neck Neighborhood Watch this week that there have been a few vehicle burglaries in the city, particularly in shopping center parking lots.

Derby police spokesman Lt. Sal Frosceno told the Valley Indy Tuesday there have been two thefts from autos” in recent weeks. Both were on Derby Avenue.

The first happened in the parking lot next to St. Michael’s Church, where a radio and and an amplifier were stolen from a parked car.

The second incident involved a parked tractor-trailer at the nearby Franklin School apartments. The trailer contained maple syrup.

Yes, someone entered the tractor-trailer and stole some syrup, Frosceno said.

I don’t see a rash of break-ins as you inquired,” Frosceno said. I only see the two recently on Derby Avenue, but, as far as an advisory, we would tell people, as usual, to always lock your car doors and windows. Simply do not leave valuables in plain view.”

Frosceno said loose change shouldn’t be left in cars, let alone call phones and GPS devices.

These basic precautions can decrease your chance of being a victim of theft from your automobile,” Frosceno said.

Thefts from autos happen fairly often all over the lower Valley, especially if cars are left unlocked.
