Man Accused Of Robbing Shelton Liquor Store

SHELTON – The quick dissemination of information between police departments across the state led to the arrest of an accused armed robber Monday night.

According to a statement from Shelton police, Jose Balseiro, 49, walked into Cleto’s Package Store on Howe Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. armed with what police described as an AR-15 type rifle.”

He demanded money, police said, and made off with cash and some unspecified items.

However, police were able to use surveillance video to identify Balseiro’s vehicle. That info was shared with law enforcement agencies, with Derby and New Haven law enforcement providing additional information gleaned from the video.

West Haven police found the vehicle at about 10 p.m. Balseiro was taken into custody in Hartford by police there at about 11 p.m.

Balseiro is charged with first-degree robbery, violating probation, and fifth-degree larceny.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 22 in Superior Court in Derby.

The quick apprehension of the suspect was a result of several law enforcement agencies working together and sharing information with the goal to get this suspect swiftly into custody,” Shelton police said in a written statement.
