Man Charged With Robbing Ansonia Gas Station

A West Haven man walked into the Ansonia police station early Thursday morning and confessed to robbing a Wakelee Avenue gas station last week.

Everald Davis, 29, is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree threatening, and second-degree larceny.

Police said Davis walked into the police department’s lobby 5:40 a.m. Thursday and told the emergency dispatcher he was there because friends had seen his photo online in connection to the robbery.

The crime occurred about 10:30 p.m. March 24 at the XPress Mart, 180 Wakelee Ave.

According to police, Davis walked into the gas station, walked around, left, then came back with a gun and demanded cash and cigarettes.

Police distributed a still photo from the station’s surveillance video in an effort to catch the robber.

After Davis turned himself in, police bolstered their case by having an employee from the gas station pick Davis out of a photo lineup.

Davis was being held on $100,000 bond, Cota said. Updated court information was not available as of 5 p.m. Friday.

Police said Davis is also a suspect in the March 29 robbery of a Great Hill Road gas station.

The robber there pulled a gun about 1 a.m. and made off with $200, police said. There were no injuries.

In addition, someone attempted to rob the Shell station at 696 Main St. in Ansonia March 22. No money was stolen in that case.

In a prepared statement Friday, police did not connect Davis to that crime.
