An Ansonia man allegedly spat on a police officer after being charged with driving under the influence Saturday.
Police charged Joseph Knott, 25, of Alcott Street, with interfering with an officer, assault on a peace officer and second-degree breach of peace after the incident.
Knott was also charged with operating under the influence and refusing to be fingerprinted.
A police officer allegedly found Knott laying across the front seat of his pick-up truck in a parking lot on Pershing Drive at about 5 a.m. Saturday. The keys were in the ignition and the hazard lights were blinking, said Lt. Andrew Cota.
The officer stopped to check on Knott, who appeared intoxicated, Cota said.
Knott refused to take sobriety tests at the scene and back at the police station, Cota said.
Cota said Knott was “being rambunctious” and spit on the police officer as he was escorted into the building for booking.
Knott was released on a $25,000 bond and was scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby Oct. 26.
