Police identified the victim of Tuesday’s night’s motorcycle crash on Derby Avenue as Antonio Gonclaves, 37, of Dexter Drive, Ansonia.
Police released a prepared statement Wednesday afternoon saying they are trying to determine if speed was a factor in the crash.
Gonclaves was killed after losing control of his motorcycle on Derby Avenue. He was ejected from his bike and died at Griffin Hospital, police said.

A 37-year-old Ansonia man was killed after crashing his motorcycle on Derby Avenue (Route 115) Tuesday night.
As of midnight, the man’s name was not available and the police department’s accident reconstruction team was still at the scene.
The accident happened at 9:21, according to Derby police.
The motorcycle was heading north on Derby Avenue and failed to negotiate a curve in the road near Mansfield Street.
According to an initial report from the scene, the motorcycle crossed the road, glanced off a telephone pole, struck a guardrail, then smashed into a retaining wall next to a driveway.
The Storm Ambulance Corps took the man to Griffin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Fire police diverted traffic onto Mansfield Street as police conducted their investigation.
The accident is the second fatal motorcycle accident in the lower Valley in two days.
