A man was killed Saturday after losing control of his car and crashing into a tree on Route 8 in Shelton.
State police identified the man as Rodney Francis, 67, of Shelton.
The crash was reported about 4:45 p.m. on Route 8 near exit 12. It happened as a series of thunderstorms passed through the region.
Fir was driving south in his 1993 Lincoln Town Car when the accident happened.
The car flipped over and hit a tree in the highway’s grassy median.
Branches pierced the vehicle’s front windshield on the driver’s side, leaving the car sitting precariously between the highway’s north-and-south-bound lanes.
The driver was declared dead at the scene.
