A man involved in a domestic dispute in Naugatuck injured himself with a knife before police took him into custody overnight.
Area police — including troopers who patrol Route 8 — were put on notice at about 1 a.m. Saturday (June 23) that a man involved in a domestic dispute in Naugatuck had left the scene in a silver Buick Park Avenue and was possibly armed with a knife.
The man, whose name wasn’t immediately available, led police on a brief chase down Route 8 before the Buick’s tire went flat. At one point the man was driving on the rim, with sparks flying as the vehicle traveled 55 mph.
He crashed into a guard rail in the area of exit 22. A police officer approached the vehicle with her gun drawn.
Before the man surrendered, he suffered a self-inflicted knife wound. The extent of his injuries are not known.
Seymour ambulance took him to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
