Oxford police transported a 55-year-old local man to Griffin Hospital Tuesday for an emergency evaluation after he reportedly told his employer that he planned on hurting himself.
Oxford Resident State Trooper Dan Semosky said police found the man outside of the Exxon Mobil gas station at 1 Oxford Road, or Route 67, near the Seymour line around midday.
Witnesses report seeing several police cars outside the gas station.
Semosky said the man notified his employer that he planned on going home and harming himself. Oxford police were notified of the situation through a nearby police department which had been contacted by the man’s employer.
The man’s employer described the man’s appearance and his vehicle for police.
Oxford Resident Trooper First Class David Hare soon spotted a vehicle that matched that description at the Mobil station. The man inside the vehicle matched the employer’s description, too.
Semosky said the man did not have a weapon.
Semosky could not say why the man planned to harm himself and could not release the patient’s name to protect his privacy, he said.
