ANSONIA — Police said a man is in the hospital after being shot in the leg Tuesday on Fourth Street near North Main Street.

Lt. Patrick Lynch said police received a report of shots fired and a possible victim at 1:55 p.m.

Officers arrived and found a male victim shot once in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. It appears to be non-life threatening,” Lynch told The Valley Indy.

Detectives are processing the scene in search of evidence, including any video that may have been captured on surveillance cameras.

A statement from police will be released shortly. Police released a statement at 5:35 p.m. describing the victim as a 39-year-old New Haven resident.

Lynch said it appears there was one shooter, but a second person may have been with the suspect.

It appears to be some type of dispute that escalated into a shooting,” Lynch said.

The suspect was described only as a tall, thin Black male who last seen running down Fourth Street towards Star Street.”

The area is heavily-populated, with many houses in the vicinity.

Other details about the crime have yet to be confirmed, Lynch said.
