UPDATE: 9:12 a.m.: Statement from Ansonia police:

On January 2, 2020 at about 8:00 p.m., while investigating a domestic violence incident at 81 Myrtle Avenue, there was an officer involved shooting when officers from the Ansonia Police Department were confronted by the suspect who was armed with a knife. There will be a press conference today, 1/3/2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Ansonia City Hall to release more information regarding the investigation.”

UPDATE, 9 a.m. State police confirmed the investigation of a use of force” incident in Ansonia.

The statement:

On Thursday, January 2, 2020, State Police – Western District Major Crime Squad (WDMCS) detectives were requested by Danbury State’s Attorney Steve Sedensky to assume the investigation of a use of force incident that occurred in the area of Myrtle Avenue in the town of Ansonia.”

State police referred further inquiries to Ansonia police and indicated a press conference may be scheduled to disseminate more information to the public.

UPDATE, 8:30 a.m. Friday: Television news stations are saying state police are investigating the incident as a police use of force” incident. The Valley Indy reached out again to state police Friday morning.

ANSONIA — A man was shot at about 8 p.m. Thursday at a residence on Myrtle Avenue.

Few details were available.

Ansonia police had not commented as of 1 a.m. Friday. State police referred a reporter’s inquiry to local police.

Police officers went sent to the residence after a person reported that a man at the address had made a threat, according to an initial radio dispatch.

A man with a gunshot wound was taken to Griffin Hospital.

Derby and Seymour police also responded to the scene.
