A Shelton man who pleaded guilty to two felony child pornography charges is scheduled to be sentenced in January in Superior Court in Derby.
Kevin Kelly, 48, is to be sentenced Jan. 26. A pre-sentencing report is being prepared.
Kelly was arrested in June 2006 on charges of first-degree possession of child pornography and promoting a minor in an obscene performance.
According to documents filed in court, Kelly’s arrest was the result of a two-year investigation involving the state police, America Online, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, along with law enforcement agencies in California and Virginia.
Kelly’s arrest warrant said state police were notified with a “cyber tip” from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in December 2004 identifying a transmission over the Internet of child pornography through AOL from the screen name “spankingshurt.”
The user was from Shelton and was later identified as Kelly.
The image, according to the warrant. depicted a naked female between the age of 9 and 15.
Through a warrant served to Virginia-based AOL by the Loudin County Sheriff’s Office, it was discovered Kelly’s outbox attachment folder contained 29 images that appeared to contain child pornography.
Two other images described by state police in the warrant contain similar depictions of naked female children between the ages of 7 and 13 performing sexual acts with adult men.
After seizing Kelly’s computer, law enforcement officials said they discovered 278 images of child pornography.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children later confirmed that 35 image files contained known victims of sexual abuse.
