Derby Mayor Donates $500 To Derby Pop Warner Cheer

DERBY – Mayor Joseph DiMartino proudly attended the Derby Pop Warner Show-Off event to present a generous $500 check to Derby Pop Warner President Melissa Mongillo. 

This contribution will support the organization’s talented young athletes as they prepare to compete in the prestigious Pop Warner Cheerleading Finals during the week of December 9, 2024.

The donation will help defray expenses for the Tiny Mites, Mighty Mites, and Junior Peewees teams as they represent Derby on the national stage. 

The Mayor expressed his admiration for the dedication and hard work of these young cheerleaders, along with the tireless efforts of their coaches, families, and the entire Derby Pop Warner community. 

Our young athletes embody the spirit and determination of Derby,” said Mayor DiMartino. It’s an honor to support their journey to the Cheerleading Finals, where they’ll showcase their talent and bring pride to our city.”

Melissa Mongillo, President of Derby Pop Warner, expressed her gratitude for the Mayor’s support. This donation means so much to our teams and their families,” said Mongillo. Our cheerleaders have worked incredibly hard to earn their spot in the Finals, and this contribution helps ensure they have the opportunity to shine on the national stage. We’re so grateful for the community’s continued support.”

The Derby Pop Warner program has long been a pillar of the community, fostering teamwork, discipline, and community spirit among local youth. This year’s cheerleading teams are no exception, exemplifying excellence and sportsmanship at every turn. The cheerleading program has built an amazing tradition, having won 17 championships over the last 12 years
