Mead School students, parents, staff and community members collected over 340 pounds of crayons to support Crayons for Cancer.
Mead School teacher Katie Twyman thought it would be a great idea to sponsor the event through the Mead School Charger Club to help support kids currently battling cancer.
The Crayons for Cancer goal is to raise money by selling fun and cute shaped crayons to help families whose children are currently suffering from devastating effects of cancer.100% of the proceeds from Connecticut goes to the Family Fund in the Oncology unit at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center of Hartford.
The group creates the fun-shaped crayons by melting down old crayons.
“Katie motivated our entire school by offering a pizza party through the PTO, to the classroom that collected the most crayons,” said Principal Terri Goldson.” “Our teachers are always thinking of creative ways to involve our students with community service.”
Mrs. Delgrego’s second grade class won the pizza prize by collecting 37 pounds of crayons.
