State Rep. Kara Rochelle and Ansonia Alderman Dan King.
ANSONIA – State Rep. Kara Rochelle (D‑Ansonia) and Ansonia First Ward Alderman Dan King are hosting a meeting 7 p.m. June 11 at The Abundant Life Fellowship Ministries, Inc.to discuss $100,000 in state money that is to be used for improvements to Gatison Park in the city’s north end.
The church is at 195 – 199 N. Main St.
“I really want to ensure that every resident in this neighborhood has a seat at the table and the ability to give their input on how to improve the park,” Rep. Rochelle said in a prepared statement.
Rochelle said she hopes a grassroots, neighborhood-driven community group is formed to help decide what happens at Gatison Park. She encouraged anyone who is interest in the effort to attend, including other public officials.
The state money will go to the city and must be spent on improvements, not costs connected to regular upkeep of the park, according to the press release.
Alderman King, a Republican, said improving the usability and safety of the park is a top priority.
“It is the heart of the First Ward and the place where people can meet and play. I look forward to hearing people’s opinions and ideas on how to improve it.”
Residents who can not make the meeting but wish to provide their feedback can do so at Kara.Rochelle@cga.ct.gov and dankansonia@gmail.com.
Rep. Rochelle represents Ansonia and Derby in the state House of Representatives. She is being challenged by Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti.
