Merrick Alpert, a Democrat running for U.S. Senate, brought his “Hurting in Connecticut” walk to the lower Valley Friday afternoon.
Carrying an American flag with a few supporters, Alpert walked along the Route 34 commercial district and into Orange. Earlier in the day Alpert visited the Shelton Senior Center.
Alpert has been walking about 20 miles a day “to bring attention to the fact that the people of Connecticut are enduring serious hardships, and that the powerful in Washington and those on Wall Street are unaware of their suffering,” according to his campaign staff.
Alpert took a few moments to talk about what he could do for the lower Valley and to answer questions about this week’s announcement that U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd will not seek re-election and that state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal wants to take his place.
