Firefighters were called to the scene after a report of smoke in the building just before 11 p.m.
Large roof fans helped to funnel smoke from the mulch fire, next to a sidewalk near the store’s entrance, into the restaurant.
The restaurant was open for business, but no customers were inside.
Firefighters checked the roof and used thermal imaging cameras to make sure there was no fire in the walls.
They vented the restaurant and left the scene by 11:30 p.m. — the same time a house fire was reported in the area of 2 Roosevelt Drive in Seymour. That blaze was in a the kitchen in the house and was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.
