The body of a 44-year-old Derby man missing for two weeks was found Sunday under a train trestle near the Derby Greenway, police said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday on Gordon Maloney, who was last seen leaving the Kazimir Pulaski Club in Shelton on Bridge Street May 19.
Derby Police Lt. Justin Stanko said the case remains under investigation.
“The Derby Police Department is treating the incident as an untimely death and there is no evidence to suggest intervening criminal conduct,” Stanko said.
The medical examiner will attempt to determine the cause and manner of Maloney’s death through the autopsy.
Maloney’s body was spotted Saturday by two people walking on the Greenway. They assumed he was sleeping. The two people returned Sunday and spotted the body in the same place, then contacted police at about 4 p.m.
Maloney’s body was in a secluded spot, behind a chain-link fence and about 15 yards off the walking trail.
The body was badly decomposed, indicating it was there for several days. Police were able to make a positive identification after finding Maloney’s driver’s license on his person.
Maloney’s family was notified Sunday.
Maloney lived in an apartment on Roosevelt Drive, in the Sterling Towers complex.
His niece, Kimberly Signore, took to social media in the days after his disappearance to spread the word.
“He was such a kind, compassionate, wonderful person. I loved him so much it kills to lose him. It is going to take alot to get through this loss for all of us,” Signore said.
Signore had been worried, since Maloney was diabetic but did not have insulin on him, she said.
Readers expressed their condolences to Maloney’s family on the Valley Indy Facebook page.
The Greenway was closed for about three hours as police investigated.
