Editor’s Note: Seymour Schools Superintendent Christine Syriac sent this message to parents Monday.
Dear Parents and Staff,
I just returned home from the Town Emergency Management Team Meeting.
The schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
There remain many things that need to be completed prior to reopening school. The roads in town must all be cleared and pushed back. That work will continue through tomorrow and Wednesday.
The school lots need to be cleared. The town hopes to begin with Chatfield this evening. After Chatfield they will go to the other schools.
The custodians, all of them, working all day long, managed to clear the high school walkways and doors today. Tomorrow the custodians will begin at the remaining schools.
The largest factor however as to why the schools will not be open on Wednesday is that bus stops are not clear, I am concerned for the safety of our students waiting at bus stops and who walk, and until the roads are pushed back the buses cannot navigate the streets.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Christine
