Monday's School Regionalization Meeting Was Canceled

ANSONIA — DERBY — Monday’s meeting of the committee studying whether to consolidate schools in Ansonia and Derby was canceled Monday after one of the committee’s members announced he had moved out of Derby.

Ron Luneau informed the committee on Sunday that he moved out of Derby, according to Jim Gildea, the co-chairman of the regionalization committee.

According to a message sent by Gildea to officials in Ansonia and Derby, the Derby Board of Aldermen & Alderwomen will have the opportunity to replace Luneau at a meeting scheduled for Jan. 13 (though an Aldermen/women meeting for January was not posted on the city’s website as of Monday evening).

The committee has been meeting for more than two years. This is the fourth time a person has stepped down, though the first time it’s from the Derby side of the committee.

The departure comes at a critical time. Members could vote on a plan opposed by Gildea and majority of the Derby school board that would close Derby’s Irving School.
