Monroe Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Shelton Crash

A 34-year-old Monroe resident was charged July 9 with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle in connection to a 2012 crash that took the life of a motorcycle rider in Shelton.

According to police, James Steinmetz turned himself in Tuesday after police received a warrant for his arrest.

Steinmetz was driving a car that collided with a motorcycle being driven by Adam Haydu, 30, of Monroe, on Leavenworth Road near the entrance to a gas station.

The crash happened July 8, 2012. Haydu died in a hospital on July 19, 2012.

Steinmetz was traveling west on Leavenworth Road and the motorcycle was traveling east. The vehicle made a left turn toward a driveway and collided with the motorcycle, police said.

Steinmetz was also charged with failing to yield while turning left.

He is free after posting a $1,000 bond and is due in Superior Court in Derby on July 23.
