Monsignor Weiss Keynote Speaker At PCRC

The Parent Child Resource Center (PCRC), the leading provider of behavioral health services to children and families in the Lower Naugatuck Valley, has announced plans for its 2013 Annual Awards Dinner to be held at Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby on Thursday, April 4. 

The evening will include dinner, awards and keynote speaker, Monsignor Robert Weiss. Reservations available for $50 per person and should be made by March 22, 2013, by calling 203 954 0543.

The 37th Annual Awards Dinner is an event to celebrate the accomplishments of PCRC staff, supporters and members of the community who will be honored for their work serving families in the Valley. The sixth annual Mary Lou Cook Award for Outstanding Service to Children and Families will be presented to David Morgan, and the eighth annual Joseph A. Pagliaro, Sr. Distinguished Service to Children and Families Award will be presented to Geraint Phillips.

Morgan is vice president of TEAM, Inc. in Derby, managing federal and state Head Start as well as multiple Connecticut Early Childhood Education programs in seven communities throughout the Valley and Milford. 

Morgan is president of the Connecticut Head Start Association, and is appointed by the president Pro Tempore of the State Senate to the Connecticut State Head Start Advisory Committee. Morgon is appointed by Gov. Malloy to Connecticut’s Early Childhood Education Cabinet, which is charged with developing a high-quality, comprehensive system of early childhood education among a wide array of early childhood programs in the state of Connecticut.

Geraint Phillips is vice president of Global Operations at PerkinElmer, a global leader in improving the health and safety of people and the environment. Geraint moved to the US in 2007. Geraint combines his passion for sport, charity and community spirit by participating in a number of initiatives and events to improve the quality of life in the Valley. Geraint is a founding member of the Pedal for PCRC” steering committee and PerkinElmer is proud to continue their association with the PCRC as host sponsor for Pedal for PCRC.”

Keynote Speaker Monsignor Robert Weiss was ordained in the Diocese of Rochester, NY in 1973. He received a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from St. Bernard’s Seminary, and a Doctor of Divinity Degree through the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, CA in 1979. Monsignor Weiss served as Pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish in Shelton, from 1989 to 1999.

In 1999 he was appointed Pastor of Saint Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, CT. Monsignor Weiss was one of the first on the scene at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012. Eight of the children and two of the adults killed inside Sandy Hook Elementary were members of his St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

In 1975, PCRC was established as a nonprofit mental health resource for parents and children, and today is the leading provider of behavioral health services for children and families in the Valley, consistently addressing the social and emotional needs of families in the area.
