More Charges Filed Against Former Shelton Masseur

A masseur who used to work at a Bridgeport Avenue spa is facing more charges after four women told Shelton police that he had touched them inappropriately during massages.

The 53-year-old masseur, whose name is listed alternately in court documents as Kim Chan Hyung and Hyungchan Kim, was initially charged July 5 with two counts each of fourth-degree sexual assault and practicing massage therapy without a license at Coco Spa.

After that arrest, Shelton police said four more of the spa’s customers filed complaints saying they were inappropriately touched and spoken to” by Kim during massages, Detective Richard Bango said in a prepared statement.

Kim surrendered to police again last week after police obtained warrants charging him with four counts each of fourth-degree sexual assault and practicing massage therapy without a license.

According to court records, the new charges are related to one incident last November and three in May.

Kim was arraigned at Superior Court in Derby on the new charges and released after posting a $20,000 bond.

His next court date is Aug. 5.

Police asked any other potential victims to reach out.

This is still an ongoing investigation and the police ask if anyone experienced similar incidents to contact the Shelton police at 203 – 924-1544,” Bango said.

Kim was fired from the salon after police informed the owner he didn’t have a license to practice massage therapy, according to an arrest warrant.
