Crash Victim In Critical Condition

A Terryville woman is in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital today, after a motorcycle crash on Route 8 southbound in Shelton Thursday afternoon.

Maureen Austin, 50, a passenger on the motorcycle, sustained life-threatening internal injuries in the crash, according to a state police accident summary report obtained Friday.

The driver of the Harley Davidson — Edman Austin, 50, also of Terryville — suffered head and back injuries in the crash, police said. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Troopers are now looking for the driver of a tan-colored Subaru, which allegedly cut off the motorcycle, causing it to crash in the left median of the highway.

The driver fled the scene after cutting in front of the motorcycle in the left lane, state police said.

The accident happened about 3:30 p.m. between exits 12 and 11 southbound.

A second minor accident occurred after the motorcycle crash, as drivers suddenly stopped in response, according to emergency crews who responded to the scene.

Only minor injuries were reported in the second crash.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call state police at Troop I in Bethany at (203) 393‑4200.
