A new MTV series, The Substitute, is being filmed today, tomorrow and Thursday at Derby High School.
The first four episodes will be shot over two days with more than 80 Derby High School students.
The new series features a trivia-game show format where students play against their classmates for prizes up to $5,000 in scholarships toward college.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and our community,” said Principal Fran Thompson, in a press release. “We are very excited about what is happening at Derby High School and that we are once again a source of pride for our community.”
The Substitute is being produced by Embassy Row Productions, the New York City-based production company behind “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and “The Newlywed Game.”
The Substitute creates a light-hearted environment that features students and their knowledge of both educational and pop trivia. The concept has the students show up to what they believe to be a normal day of class. However, shortly after sitting down, the host enters and the classroom is transformed a game show in which they have the opportunity to win prizes such as computers and free lunches.
Ultimately one student will walk away with thousands of dollars that he or she can use towards his or her college education.
