The National Guard was in Ansonia Friday morning, helping to direct traffic as giant front-end loaders removed snow from Wakelee Avenue in front of Nolan Field.
At about 10 a.m., National Guard Spc. Ruben Hoyos said they had been at Wakelee Avenue for about an hour directing traffic so the large machines could do the work.
The machines removed the snow from Wakelee Avenue and dumped it into trucks owned by City Carting, a private company based out of Stamford.
When the dump trucks were full, the driver dumped the snow onto a portion of a parking lot at Nolan Field.
Kelvin Farmer, a truck driver at City Carting, said they’ve been using the spot as dumping ground for the snow left over from the 2013 Blizzard that hit New England Feb. 8 and Feb. 9.
“We will be helping out as of right now ‘till we receive further notice,” Pfc. Leanne Taylor said.
