Naugatuck Valley Young Dems Endorse Jorge Cabrera

At the July 15 virtual meeting of the Naugatuck Valley Young Democrats (NVYD), Jorge Cabrera was unanimously endorsed for the 17th State Senate District, which covers Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, and parts of Hamden, Naugatuck and Woodbridge.

Jorge currently serves as an organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 919 and has previously worked for former Speaker of the House Moira Lyons. Jorge is a resident of Hamden, where he lives with his wife and their two children.

Cabrera was the endorsed candidate for the 2018 general election, where he narrowly lost to State Sen. George Logan. He received NVYDs endorsement that year as well.

Jorge not only has an impressive background as a labor organizer and an advocate for working families, he has consistently shown up for residents of the 17th even despite the challenges associated with the pandemic,” said NVYD President Niki Dykstra. He has held virtual discussions on COVID-19 and healthcare reform, he’s marched alongside social justice activists in the Valley, and he’s out safely listening to folks on their doorsteps. His love for our community is evident in everything he does, and it is our great honor to endorse him for Connecticut’s 17th Senate District.”

Founded in February of 2017, the Naugatuck Valley Young Democrats were voted an official chapter of the Connecticut Young Democrats in May of 2017. They represent Democrats between the ages of 14 and 40 from Ansonia, Beacon Fall, Derby, Naugatuck, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton. They are working to bolster youth engagement in Valley politics as well as furthering the efforts of local Democratic candidates.
