NAVEL GAZING: Domurad v. Staffieri

In this week’s episode of Navel Gazing, we try to summarize the case of Derby’s former finance director, Henry Domurad Jr., who sued Mayor Anthony Staffieri in May in an attempt to get his job back.

The two sides were at Superior Court in Milford Tuesday for a hearing to determine whether Domurad would get his job back while the case is pending. At the end of the hearing, a judge ruled that Domurad would not return to work. Despite the setback, Domurad’s lawyer vowed to fight on.

We discuss those developments, but we also discuss other aspects of Tuesday’s testimony — several clips of which are available on our website — and whether that testimony may have more far-reaching implications than just the legal battle at hand.

The case is a complicated one, to say the least, with a lot of conflicting accounts and vaguely remembered details of long-ago events. We try to relate the facts as each side presented them in court, and end by emphasizing that though plenty was said there Tuesday, there is still plenty of information about this controversy we don’t know.
