New Alderman Appointed In Ansonia

Peter Marcinko is a new Ansonia Alderman representing the city’s First Ward.

Marcinko was appointed Tuesday night. He replaces Robert Duffus, who wrote a letter to the mayor and the Aldermen Dec. 6 saying he no longer had the time needed to serve as Alderman.

I will cherish the many years I’ve served as a member of this board,” Duffus said in his letter. It has truly been an honor and privilege to work for my constituents in the First Ward. We always hope that our efforts will have a positive influence on the future of our city, especially our youth.”

Marcinko has lived in Ansonia for 12 years. He has served on the Ansonia Zoning Board of Appeals for 10 years, including four years as chairman. He resigned from the ZBA last month.

I am dedicated to the City of Ansonia and I would consider it an honor to join the Board of Aldermen and continue serving the residents of this city in a new capacity,” Marcinko said in a letter Dec. 6 to the mayor asking to be considered for the opening.

I assure you I will have the best interests of Ansonia in mind and would count it (as) a privilege to serve the city’s First Ward.”

Ansonia’s other First Ward Aldermen is Edward Adamowski.

Duffus was a Democrat, as is Marcinko.

The vote to put him on the board was seven yes,” two abstentions (Second Ward Republican Aldermen Phillip Tripp and Charles Stowe) and one no.”

Joan Radin, a Republican who represents the city’s Fifth Ward, voted no. She said she didn’t know Marcinko, but said the zoning board under his watch had a problem with attendance and couldn’t muster a quorum at times.

The video below features Radin’s comments, followed by the full-board vote.
