New Alderman Appointed In Ansonia

A 15-year city resident and active volunteer was appointed to Ansonia’s Board of Aldermen Tuesday.

Frank DeLibero, 56, a Republican who lives on Martin Terrace, will now represent the Seventh Ward, filling a spot vacated by Daniel Evans, who resigned last month because he said taxes are too high and he’s moving.

Seventh Ward Alderman David Blackwell Jr. nominated DeLibero during a special meeting before the Aldermen’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

DeLibero has two children who have gone through the city’s school system, and is active as a coach, Blackwell said.

He also serves on the Board of Apportionment and Taxation and the Recreation Commission, but will step down from those positions.

Aldermen then voted 12 – 1 to appoint DeLibero to the vacancy. Joan Radin, a Republican from the Fifth Ward, voted against the appointment.

DeLibero said afterward that he looks forward to helping Mayor David Cassetti pursue his agenda.

“I believe the mayor is bringing the city in the correct direction,” he said. “I’d like to be part of it, I’d like to get involved in trying to help people.”

He said he anticipates running for re-election in municipal elections in November.

DeLibero is originally from Stratford, and is a retired employee of Sikorsky Aircraft.
