Oxford First Selectman George R. Temple helped break ground this week for a new family owned bakery/coffee shop that will open on Route 67 across from the Center School.
The Cloutier family — pastry chef Briana Cloutier and her parents Donna and Normand Cloutier — are renovating a 1910 building at 451 Oxford Road into an exciting new adventure.
Called the Oxford Baking Co., Briana says they plan to serve an array of treats largely gathered from or inspired by collections of old fashioned early American recipes, from fresh hot cinnamon rolls in the morning to cookies and pastries with tea and cakes for all occasions.
Briana, a graduate of the Connecticut Culinary Institute, said the bread will be hearty and ingredients wholesome and local, the lemonade squeeze-pressed per cup, and there will be local coffees, lattes and cappuccinos.
Temple said he’s looking forward to the bakery opening, (stay tuned for a date.)
“Briana has made pastries for town hall employees and we all agree she is a great baker. I think her bakery will soon become a destination of choice,” said Temple.
Briana said she and her family have been made to feel extremely welcome by the town as a whole and could not be more pleased and excited to be arriving “anywhere else in the world,’’ she said.
