The fifth winter storm of the season is upon us.
As of 5:30 a.m., schools were canceled in Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Today’s storm is expected to drop between 1 to 3 inches on the region this morning.
Here is the forecast from the National Weather Service:
Today: Snow, mainly before noon. High near 30. Blustery, with a north wind 6 to 9 mph increasing to between 17 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as ‑4. Northwest wind between 9 and 15 mph.
The series of storms is hitting municipalities where it hurts. The overtime budget is wiped out in Ansonia, the Valley Gazette reports.
The latest agenda for the Derby tax board shows a budget transfer request for $25,000 for the Department of Public Works.
