New Deputy Police Chief In Derby


Veteran police officer Lt. Scott Todd was promoted to Deputy Chief in front of a standing-room only crowd inside the Derby Police Department Monday.

Todd, a 1983 Shelton High School graduate, was one of three finalists for the job after a recent exam.

He fills the vacancy created when Gerald Narowski was promoted to Derby Chief of Police in October.

Todd is a past member of the Shelton Fire Department and Echo Hose Ambulance Corps, where he served as a firefighter and EMT prior to joining the Derby Police Department in 1989 as a supernumerary officer.

He graduated with honors from Western Connecticut State University in 1988 with a bachelor of science degree in justice and law administration.

Todd was promoted to a regular officer in 1992, serving in the patrol division until 1996 when he was appointed acting detective.

He spent one year in the detective division until his promotion to sergeant in 1997. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2007, and has been the commander of the patrol division for the past 3.5 years.

In addition to patrol commander, Todd is also the field training and evaluation program coordinator, responsible for managing the field training of new recruit officers, and the Derby Auxiliary Police Coordinator. He is also a state certified defensive tactics and use of force instructor.

Todd lives in Shelton with his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Nicole and Daniel.
