New Hire At The Ansonia Police Department

Ansonia police have hired a new officer — the third new hire in a year.

Jonathan Edwards, a Naugatuck resident, was unanimously appointed by the Ansonia Board of Aldermen on March 13.

Police Chief Kevin Hale said Edwards was a good pick for the department.

Jonathan Edwards clearly came out on top,” Hale said at the Board of Aldermen meeting.

Edwards has his associate degree in criminal justice and his bachelor’s in justice and law from Western Connecticut State University, according to Hale.

He comes from a family of public servants,” Hale said.

Edwards’ brothers are also police officers, he said.

Edwards will start at the Police Academy March 30.

He is expected to start field officer training with the department in November.

Starting pay is $55,000.

His appointment comes after Ansonia Sgt. Lou Owens retired this month.

Owens started as a full-time officer in Ansonia in October 1986, and was a part-time officer in Ansonia prior to that.

In November, Ansonia hired two other new officers to fill two patrol officer positions left vacant from a retirement and a promotion.

Those officers have finished their training and are with the department now.
