Police: Bridgeport Man Threatened Woman With Gun

Police arrested a Bridgeport man Monday after he threatened his girlfriend with a gun during a public dispute at the Stop & Shop on Division Street.

Jason Kelly, 24, of Trumbull Avenue in Bridgeport, was charged with breach of peace, third-degree assault, threatening, unlawful restraint, reckless endangerment and interfering with an emergency call after the argument about 6 p.m. Monday.

Police said Kelly and his girlfriend had an argument in the car on the way to the Stop & Shop, which continued after they arrived. The girlfriend, who was not named, got out of the car and sat on a store bench. Kelly allegedly followed her, yelled at her and slapped her in the face more than once.

Then he went back to the parked car and got a gun out of the trunk, police said.

Meanwhile the girlfriend had started to call police, to which Kelly allegedly said: They will only find your body,” according to police.

Lt. Andrew Cota said Kelly did not wave the gun around, but had it at his side while he fought with the girlfriend. When police arrived on scene, Kelly got into his car and drove away. Ansonia police pulled him over behind Stop & Shop.

Kelly was held on $100,000 bond until his arraignment Tuesday morning.
