No Cause Yet In Derby Fire

Derby Fire Marshal Phil Hawks said a cause has not been determined in last night’s fire on Mount Pleasant Street.

The fire was reported at about 7 p.m. at 6 Mount Pleasant St.

The house is a two-story, single-family residence owned by the Regan family.

One woman was home at the time. She was able to get out unharmed. The family dogs also made it out. A cat is unaccounted for.

The fire appears to have started in the attic. The support beams to the roof were badly damaged.

“The damage to the attic area is pretty extensive,” Hawks said. “The second floor has smoke, heat and water damage, and the first floor has a lot of water damage.”

The family was able to stay with relatives in Derby last night.

Firefighters were on the scene until about 2:30 a.m.

Two firefighters was treated for smoke inhalation. Both men are OK, firefighters reported Wednesday morning.

The house damaged Tuesday night is near a house on Derby Avenue that burned in March. That fire took the life of David Kostrey, 57.

Another attic fire happened on Derby Avenue in February.
