No Injuries In Minor Fire At Ansonia Copper & Brass

FILEA minor fire burned some insulation and roofing at the Ansonia Copper and Brass property Wednesday night.

There were no injuries.

Fire Marshal Ralph Tingley said in an email that firefighters were sent to the company’s former casting shop about 10:15 p.m. after the fire was discovered by a night watchman.

Though Ansonia Copper and Brass offices have a Liberty Street address, fire trucks had to access the area of the fire via Riverside Drive, on the opposite side of the Naugatuck River, over which a bridge extends to the rear of the business.

Firefighters from Derby also responded.

The fire was confined to insulation and roofing above some offices in the casting shop, Tingley said.

The fire caused a minor smoke condition” in the building before it was put out.

The fire marshal ruled the blaze accidental, caused by sparks from a torch or saw being used by contractors to salvage metal from the site.”

Firefighters were at the scene until about 1 a.m., Tingley said.
