No Injuries In Shelton Rollover

A Shelton woman escaped without injuries Tuesday after losing control of her sport utility vehicle on Leavenworth Road and rolling into a ditch.

The woman, who was not identified by police at the scene, was heading westbound on Leavenworth Road when the crash occurred.

Sgt. Pete Zaksewicz said she lost control of the car, went over a guardrail and landed upside down in a ditch in front of the parking lot to Oronoque Farms at 188 Leavenworth Rd.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area just before 1 p.m. Initial radio dispatches to emergency responders indicated a school bus may have been involved in the crash, but Zaksewicz said those reports were inaccurate.

At the scene, the car’s horn blared continually as police, firefighters, and paramedics milled about. A section of guardrail the vehicle went over was badly bent, and part of a utility pole had been sheared away by the impact. Parts of the car littered the ditch near where the vehicle came to rest.

A United Illuminating crew was also at the scene of the accident. The outage report on UI’s website indicated one customer was without power as a result of the incident, and projected a restoration time of 7:42 p.m.

Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said the driver’s identity wouldn’t be available until a report is filed on the crash, likely at some point Tuesday night.
