No New Leads In Toilet Caper

Police continue to investigate who left a politically-charged toilet in front of the Center School last week.

First Selectwoman MaryAnn Drayton-Rogers said Thursday the investigation is continuing, but she doesn’t know if an arrest is eminent. She said she wants the matter resolved quickly.

Sgt. Shawn Corey, spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, also said the matter is still under investigation.

He said the likely charge for the crime will be breach of peace, if someone is apprehended.

Last week the Waterbury-Republican American reported resident state Trooper Dan Semosky as saying that several people of interest” would be interviewed.

Semosky didn’t return several calls for comment.

On Sept.1, a janitor found the toilet in the gazebo of the Center School surrounded by crushed rose petals and a white sheet with the words, McKinnon’s Throne” written on it.

The words were a reference to Board of Education Chairman Rose McKinnon.

The toilet incident could have been motivated by local political divisions.

The school board found itself in the midst of a controversy that dragged on for several months when members voided the contract of Superintendent Judith Palmer in May.

Palmer left the district in August — but not after a rally in her support and several contentious meetings where parents voiced their support of the superintendent.

Some Republicans on the school board said the protesting parents were connected to local Democrats.

Many people in town, including Drayton-Rogers, were disgusted by the toilet incident.

No one in town deserves to be treated that way,” Drayton-Rogers said.

There are a lot of people in town upset over this and we’re all determined to get to the bottom of who did this,’‘ Selectman David Yish said. I have no patience for this kind of thing,’‘ he said.

Yish said the state police are taking this case very seriously,’‘ and said he will be following it to make sure this is investigated thoroughly.

We can’t overlook what happened. We can’t sweep this under the rug,’‘ he said.
