A member of the Derby tax board accused of embezzling money from his former employer is due in court again Feb. 1.
Frank Lazowski, Sr. was arrested Aug. 27, 2010 on charges of first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny and second-degree forgery.
He has pleaded not guilty.
Lazowski, while working at M&O Corp., a HVAC company in Bridgeport, allegedly approved the payment of bills paid for work that was never performed. Click here for our previous story.
Lazowski allegedly split the money with Ronald Reinhart, a supplier who was in on the scam.
Police allege that Lazowski stole about $40,000 are suing him in civil court for $150,000. The company believes that Lazowski’s alleged actions reach farther back than police were able to address due to the statute of limitations.
Lazowski worked at the company from 1998 until February 2010.
Reinhart pleaded guilty to first-degree larceny earlier this month, the New Haven Register reported.
Lazowski’s attorney, Michael J. Luzzi, said he’s been talking to prosecutors about resolving the case. A formal offer hasn’t been offered in open court.
“Discussions with the state continue and that is really the only comment I’m going to make at this point,” Luzzi said.
Lazowski remains on the tax board. Local officials thought he would resign after his arrest, but he didn’t.
Officials haven’t pressured him publicly to step down.
