Ansonia schools will be closed on Thursday Feb. 3 for the district to remove snow and ice from the roofs.
A message about the closure was posted on the school district’s website at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The district and the city have been reviewing problems with roofs at the schools, in particular at Prendergast, Mead and the middle school. The main concern previously has been leaks.
The district’s message is posted below:
Due to the recent winter storms that have occurred over the past few days, Ansonia Public Schools will be taking extra precautions on Thursday, Feb. 3 to evaluate the stress on the roofs of our buildings caused by the accumulation of the snow, ice, and rain. Therefore, the Ansonia Public Schools will remain CLOSED on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 in order to take all of the necessary steps to inspect the conditions of our roofs and to remove all snow and ice build-up.
We apologize for the continued inconvenience of these school closings, which will total NINE as of Feb. 3, 2011. However, the safety of the children and staff is paramount. We will keep you updated during the day Thursday utilizing this website, our automated calling system, and the City of Ansonia’s website.
