Numbers Decrease In Oxford, Finally

Oxford, where efforts to restore electricity was stalled since Wednesday, finally started seeing progress late Friday.

As of 11 p.m. Friday, 22 percent of all Connecticut Light & Power customers in town were without power. That is 1,193 customers.

The town had been stuck at about 40 percent since Wednesday evening.

First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers urged Oxford residents to hang in there.

The strain is definitely showing on many,” Drayton-Rogers said. I’m asking that residents demonstrate restraint and show respect for the utility crews & PW crews that are putting in long hours to try and help them and that the volunteers keep up their fantastic work in town.”

We will all eventually get through the misery that the October 29 storm left behind,” she said.

Meanwhile, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Friday evening that the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency under former President Bill Clinton will be coming to assess the response of both Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating to the October Nor’Easter.
