NVHD Reports Probable COVID-19 Death In Seymour

The Naugatuck Valley Health District reported a probable COVID-19 death Monday, the first reported since July 30.

The person was a Seymour man in his 70s, according to the health district. He died last week. The man’s name was not released.

COVID-19 deaths are categorized as laboratory-confirmed or probable. Probable COVID-19 deaths are ones in which the person may not have been tested for COVID-19 but a death certificate lists COVID-19 as a cause or probable cause of death.

Since March, there have been 209 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 associated deaths locally. There have been 37 probable COVID-19 associated deaths. This information was current as of Monday, Oct. 26.

The Naugatuck Valley Health District covers Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour, and Shelton. Oxford is in the Pomperaug Health District.

The health district also issued its first report since Oct. 23. An additional 38 positive COVID-19 cases were reported between Friday (Oct. 23) and Monday (Oct. 26) within the health district’s jurisdiction.

Please continue to be mindful of simple precautions that can help make a difference – wear a mask/face covering when in public, continue to practice social distancing by keeping 6 feet away from others, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, and stay home if you do not feel well,” the health district said in an email.

Connecticut’s positivity rate was 2.2 percent Monday.
According to the state:

  • 92,191 tests were administered since Friday and 2,047 came back positive (2.2% positivity rate)
  • 270 patients are hospitalized (increase of 37)
  • There were 12 COVID-related deaths
