Officer Suffers Hand Injury During Private Duty Job

Police ticketed a local man Wednesday after his car struck the hand of an officer directing traffic downtown.

About 11:15 a.m. Officer John Giordano was on a private duty job directing traffic on Coram Avenue by Myrtle Street, police said. While directing traffic, a vehicle’s side mirror hit Giordano’s hand.

The driver of the vehicle, an 87-year-old man from Shelton, was issued an infraction ticket for striking an officer with a motor vehicle. Police said Giordano was treated for his injuries and released. Fines for the infraction range from $150 to $200.
