Officials Probe Arson Fire At Seymour Transfer Station

Officials are continuing their investigation into an arson fire at the garbage transfer station off Silvermine Road.

The transfer station will be closed until Wednesday, according to the town’s website.

Seymour Fire Marshal Paul Wetowitz said evidence collected from the scene will be taken to the state forensic lab for analysis. Police are expected to be knocking on doors on homes in the area, hoping for information.

The fire was reported at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and looked suspicious immediately, Wetowitz said. Click here to read our original story from Saturday.

A small structure was burned, as was a debris pile on the ground outside a hopper. In addition, a back hoe was vandalized.

You don’t normally get things burning along asphalt unless there’s something (an accelerant) poured there,” Wetowitz said.

The transfer station is closed Mondays.

Anyone with information about the fire should call the Seymour Police Department at 203 – 881-7600.
