Update: One Person Injured In Ansonia Fire

One person was injured and three families were displaced after a fire in the Beaver Brook apartments at 110 Woodbridge Ave. Monday night.

The extent of the person’s injuries were not known late Monday. The person was taken by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital.

The fire department was sent to the scene at 9 p.m. according to Anthony DeLucia, a captain with the Eagle Hose & Hook & Ladder Company 6.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the first floor windows of a two-story structure that housed six apartments.

Firefighters stretched a hose line into the basement, where the fire is thought to have originated. It may have started in a dryer, DeLucia said.

The Ansonia fire marshal’s office is investigating.

The basement of one apartment was gutted. Two other apartments sustained smoke damage. The Ansonia Fire Department requested assistance for the residents from the Red Cross, but DeLucia said he thought the people were able to stay with relatives.

A ladder truck from Derby was called as a precaution. The apartments shared a common attic which can spread flames quickly, so firefighters carved out two holes in the roof to make sure the fire was contained, DeLucia said. Seymour firefighters were also at the scene as back-up.

In all, DeLucia estimated at least 40 firefighters responded.
