One Person Shot Multiple Times In Ansonia

Ansonia police look for shell casings on Church Street at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23.

ANSONIA — City police are investigating a shooting that happened about 12 p.m. Tuesday on Howard Avenue.

A man was shot three times, according to initial information at the scene from Lt. Patrick Lynch. Police released information Tuesday night saying the victim is 21 years old and is listed in serious but stable condition at a hospital in New Haven.

Police received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired somewhere on Howard between Arch and High streets. Police then received reports of a gunshot victim running south on Howard Avenue toward Grove Street.

We received a call shortly thereafter from Griffin (hospital) saying they had one party shot three times,” Lynch said.

At least a dozen shots were fired.

Numerous shell casings of different calibers were located on Howard Avenue and Church Street indicating at least two people shooting in the area,” police said.

Police were going door-to-door interviewing neighbors as of 2 p.m. Police asked that anyone with video cameras outside their residences in the area of Howard and Church contact police at 203 – 735-1885.

In addition, new shell casings were still being found on a sidewalk on Church Street, which intersects with Howard off Wakelee Avenue.

We have a (crime) scene in front of 199 – 201 Howard Avenue. There are multiple shell casings,” Lynch said. The detective bureau is here right now trying to sort through what happened. It appears there was more than one shooter, but we are trying to determine whether two people were shooting at each other or two people were shooting at one victim.”

The investigation is in its early stages. More information will be posted if and when it is released.
