Oxford Animals Seized, Probe Continues

Animal control officers seized 41 animals from a property on Condon Road Tuesday.

In a press release, agents from the state Department of Agriculture claim the animals belonging to Karen Desrosiers were neglected, but no charges have been filed.

Authorities began investigating Desrosiers’ property Feb. 20, after receiving a report of a roaming animal.”

Animal control officers obtained a search and seizure warrant to enter the property Tuesday. They confiscated a horse, 18 chickens, four dogs, a cat, six turkeys, six guinea fowl, a pig, a goat, a donkey and two miniature horses.

The animals lacked veterinary care and some didn’t have enough food or water. The horses had a skin condition of some kind.

The investigation continues.

Neglect and abuse animals are actions we do not tolerate at the Department of Agriculture,” said Steven Reviczky, commissioner of the state’s Department of Agriculture. It is essential that these animals receive adequate food, water and care while we investigate the circumstances that led to these conditions, and take the necessary steps to ensure they do not occur again.”

The animals were taken to various shelters and a rescue facility in Niantic. Anyone who wants to help the state pay for the care of the animals can send a check to the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, 165 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, 06106.
