The Oxford Babe Ruth 9 Year Old All Star team concluded an impressive undefeated season on Sunday by defeating Danbury 11 – 5 in the I‑84 championship game.
The team was an impressive 17 – 0 during the season which began in June. Sunday’s championship included impressive performances by many of the Oxford 9‑year-olds.
Vince Biondo got the team off to a good start by pitching the first two innings, Hunter Keller held them off in the next two innings and Saar Rosa closed the game out with two shutout innings.
The game also included several clutch defensive plays including two put-outs at home plate by the tandem of Hunter Keller and Tyler Kaether. Saar Rosa also had an amazing two-run home run hit in the second inning to get Oxford the lead.
There were also key hits by Nick Cruz, Will Broas and Tanner Soracco. Other contributions were made by Jackson Greer, Richard Evans and Griffin DeNigris.
The team from Oxford had gone 14 – 0 during the regular season which included games against Newtown, Easton, Westport, New Canaan, New Fairfield, Woodbury and Middlebury.
The team had critical wins during the tournament playoffs against Newtown as well as a late game comeback against Easton before beating Danbury on Sunday.
